Uphill

Privacy

Your data stays with you. We never see it.

What Uphill collects

Nothing. Uphill has no account, no sign-in and no server, and the app sends nothing to us. We never see your data.

What stays on your iPhone

Your details, tests, sessions, plan and awards are kept in Uphill's own storage on your iPhone. They are in your iPhone's backups if you make them. Uphill does not use iCloud itself.

Each session also keeps which sensor gave your heart rate, the treadmill's own speed and incline readings, and your heart rate 1 and 2 minutes after the main part. All of it stays on your iPhone and in your own backup file.

On iPhones with Apple Intelligence, Uphill Pro uses Apple's on-device model to word your plan. It runs on your iPhone, and nothing is sent anywhere.

Apple Health

Apple Health is your choice. If you allow it, Uphill reads your date of birth, sex, height, weight, resting heart rate, steps and workouts, with the heart rate recorded during them. It uses them to work out your VO2 max, your heart rate zones and your calories, and to show your steps.

Uphill saves your VO2 max results and the workouts of your tests and sessions to Apple Health, with the heart rate, steps and calories from them.

All of this stays on your iPhone, between Uphill and Apple Health. It is never used for advertising and never shared. You can change what Uphill may read or save at any time in the Health app.

Bluetooth and motion

Uphill uses Bluetooth to read live heart rate from your smartwatch, fitness band or chest strap, and speed and incline from treadmills that share them. It only reads, and never controls a machine. It uses your iPhone's motion sensor to count your steps and cadence during a test or session. Uphill never uses your location.

Purchases

Uphill Pro is bought through the App Store. Apple handles the payment, so we never see your card details.

No ads, no analytics, no trackers

No ads, ever. Uphill has no analytics, no trackers and no code from other companies.

When you share or write to us

You can share a report, a result or an award. It goes only where you send it. If you email us, we see your email address and what you write, and use them only to reply.

This website

This website collects nothing. It sets no cookies, has no analytics, ads or trackers, and loads nothing from other companies. Even its fonts are kept on the site itself.

This site is hosted by Cloudflare, which handles each visit, as any host does. We add no tracking to it.

Deleting your data

In the app, go to Profile › Apple Health and data › Delete all my data. Deleting the app does the same. Anything Uphill saved to Apple Health stays there until you remove it in the Health app. Because we hold none of your data, there is nothing for us to delete.

Who makes Uphill

Uphill is made by Colin Nathan, an independent developer. Questions about privacy are welcome at [email protected].
